luciana achugar

luciana achugar is a Brooklyn-based choreographer from Uruguay whose work explores the relationship between aesthetics and ideology. She makes dances to be felt as they are seen and as an occasion for community. achugar began making work collaboratively with Levi Gonzalez in 1999, and in 2002 she started working independently. Since then, luciana has created works in numerous venues in New York and around the United States, including: The Kitchen, Dance Theater Workshop (now New York Live Arts), Danspace Project, the Walker Art Center and PICA's Time-Based Art Festival. Her latest work 'FEELingpleasuresatisfactioncelebrationholyFORM,' premiered in May 2012 at Abrons Arts Center as a co-production with The Chocolate Factory and was later presented as an excerpt outside for LMCC’s 2012 River to River Festival.

luciana is a two-time New York Dance Bessie Award recipient and has received support from a variety of foundations, including: Creative Capital, The Field Dance Fund, The Foundation for Contemporary Arts, The Guggenheim Foundation, The Jerome Foundation, The Multi-Arts Production Fund, and New York Foundation for the Arts.
